Tom Dixon Reimagine Competition Runner-up
For the first reimagine competition for Tom, Dixon, Visune, and Design Burger, I chose to create a bowl-shaped lamp inspired by Tom Dixon’s Melt series. The captivating form of the Melt series lampshade served as a profound muse for my design. The entrancing silhouette of the Melt series lampshade played a pivotal role in shaping the foundation of my design, serving as a source of profound artistic influence. Enchanted by the organic surface of the glass, evoking memories of the velvety smoothness found in the texture of fruits, I was driven to incorporate a genuine and nature-inspired touch into the overarching aesthetic of my creation. This deliberate fusion of the sleek, contemporary design of the Melt series with the inherent beauty of nature resulted in a unique and harmonious synthesis, amplifying the visual appeal of the bowl-shaped lamp.
I opted for the efficient reuse of internal components sourced from the original Melt Cone Fat table lamp. By incorporating these pre-existing parts into my design, I ensured a seamless integration of tried-and-tested components. This approach not only contributes to the sustainability of the manufacturing cycle but also upholds the design integrity of the Melt series, creating a synthesis of efficiency and reliability within the context of my reimagined lamp project.
